Folks, from the Flight Blog, Cap’n Aux checkin’ in.
We in the airline biz have a phrase: Quick Turn. That’s when you fly your plane to Point B, dump your passengers off, grab new ones, and fly back to Point A.
Well, that’s what it felt like for Cap’n David, who, last time, gave us a wonderful “Cap’n on the Tarmac” view of the world’s largest fly-in and air show, EAA’s Airventure, better known as “Oshkosh.”
Even though Oshkosh runs for an entire week, Cap’n David could only fly in for a couple nights, then “Quick Turn” right back out.
But, oh, what a time he had in those intense 48 hours!
This week, we have a special treat: Cap’n David fills us in by video, on what it’s like to actually fly into the world’s largest fly-in.
Man, talk about intense!

Sad News
On a sad note, 4 people were killed in two separate accidents related to Airventure 23.
In the first, a T-6 Texan crashed into a lake after “spinning out of control.” Two were killed.
The second incident involved a gyrocopter and helicopter midair (2 passengers survived with injuries, while 2 others perished.)

Our hearts go out to the loved ones.
While investigations will be ongoing for some time, for now, let’s let these tragedies serve as a stark reminder that aviation inherently carries risk.
Pilots, don’t ever forgo that preflight, do your checklists, and when in doubt, DON’T!!!

Greenland vs. Iceland
Well, in my new LAX base, I’ve been flying tons of LHR (London) trips. Recently, to take advantage of the jetstream, we’ve been flying mighty northerly routes, well up over Greenland and Iceland.
On the last couple trips, I was finally able to see Iceland for the first time.
I’ve long heard the saying, “Iceland is green, and Greenland is ice.”
Well, I finally found out!
