Oshkosh 23—Our Cap’n on the Tarmac!

Folks, from the flight blog, it’s Cap’n Aux here. And this week is every aviation enthusiast’s favorite week of the year: Oshkosh!

EAA’s (Experimental Aircraft Association) “Airventure”, better known as “Oshkosh”, is the world’s LARGEST annual aviation fly-in and airshow!

And, this year, Team Aux’s own Cap’n David (SWA, Ret.) flew his Cessna 310 in for the week, to plane camp with his aspiring pilot son Jackson, along with thousands of other pilot-aviation enthusiasts!

So, we get a special treat: Cap’n David has volunteered to be our “Man on the Street”—or, should I say, “Cap’n on the Tarmac,” for this amazing week of aeronautical bliss!

But First…

Congratulations To Team Aux Producer Bunny!

Last week, Team Aux Producer Bunny, my wife, snagged the National Silver Medal—Bikini Master’s Category—in the NPC National Bodybuilding Championships, in Pittsburgh!

This year, the field was exceptionally huge and fierce—but she prevailed to take the medal stand!

CONGRATULATIONS, Producer Bunny!!!

And now…

Oshkosh 23—Our Cap’n on the Tarmac!

Cap’n David flew his Cessna 310 from PHX to OSH to camp under the wing for the week, as do hundreds, if not thousands, of other pilots and aviation-enthusiasts.

Planes of all kinds, from my favorite P-51 Mustang WWII warbirds, to fancy, state of the art Cirrus planes, can be found there—

And that’s just in the “audience!”

Cap’n Dave has promised to check in with some of the great finds of the year, so for starters we’ll post a few pics and vids from Day 1.

Enjoy!

(Above) First up, Cap’n Dave shared a pic of the entrance to Airventure, evoking our own Team Aux memories!

This year marked Oshkosh's 65th anniversary, so...

Heavy Lifting Dreams

Airbus’s Dreamlifter flew in, along with NASA’s “Super Guppy,” dwarfing all the hundreds of other birds on the tarmac…

As always, plenty of military birds were on hand to wow the crowd as well!

The Sound of Airshows

Two early airshows included an engine-off aerobatics performance in an Aero, Bob Hoover-style, followed by a helicopter.

All viewed from the comfort of Cap’n Dave’s “Living Room”—the wing of his 310!

The Best Part of OSH

And finally, what’s the best part of EAA AirVenture Oshkosh?

Sitting around the plane, chatting with friends, new and old, trading lies and war stories!

We’ll be posting more as our Cap’n on the Tarmac reports in.

For now, Happy Smoketrails!

Till the next post,

This is Cap'n Dave
