Part I: Women's History Month Redux

Last month’s interview with a Female Pilot, celebrating Women’s History Month, was a huge hit!

And, in that vein, here’s a cool news video involving a young, upcoming female pilot that I thought I’d share. On her 3rd solo flight, when she took off…the nose gear decided to stay on the runway!

So, what’s a young solo pilot to do?

Well, as everyone’s favorite Cap’n, Cap’n Dillon, likes to say, “As a pilot, you gotta be ready for anything!”

Yep, Girls Rule! 😀

There’s some great pilots out there, young and old, male and female!

Part II: Trust Us, We're Trained Professionals!

A super duper Kudos to two different flight and cabin crews over at American Airlines this week who, in two separate incidents, were able to safely return to landing after engine fires.

One, caused by a birdstrike on takeoff, the other on the takeoff roll, of “unknown origin” at this time (mechanical issue suspected.)

In any case, both crews were able to safely secure the planes and return with no injuries.

As always, of course, the media hypes up the drama. But, it looks to me that the crews had full control at all times.

Once again, kudos to the professional crews!

Blog Buddy Shoutout!

Recently, Team Aux Producer Bunny ran into an old Blog Buddy. You may recall our post a several years ago entitled, “The Cap’n and the Sergeant.”

Well, Bunny heard the ol’ Sergeant Justin C. call out her name while boarding her flight. Turns out he’s now a Ramp Supervisor for our airline out in RIC!

Justin is working hard on his career, and hoping to join me in the airline cockpit soon.

He’s also the proud father of two gorgeous kids, Justice and Josiah!

Justin, best of luck in your aviation career!

And, I’m sure it’s no coincidence that “Justice” (nickname “Justin”) is the name of my high flyin’ teen spy in my “Code Name: DodgerFly/Spy adventure series!

Uh, right Justin?!??!

Hemisphere Dancing Report

This week an alert was issued for a strong showing of the Northern Lights, possibly visible all the way down to Phoenix. And, flying through the night over Northern Canada and Greenland, we got a front row seat!

While most of it was the standard green color, we did get a little red shade in one “waterfall.”

Mesmerizing stuff!

By the time we hit Greenland, the sun was up. Not much green in Greenland, but lotsa white!

Finally, on my deadhead home from BOS, I got a window seat. Here’s a nice shot of our takeoff.

You ever get good pics from the cabin? Always fun to share!
