Folks, from the Flight Blog, this is Cap’n Aux speaking.
I’ve long said that the best part of writing this here aviation blog is meeting YOU!
And, every once in awhile, we need to hit the Pause button and do just that—celebrate you and our other fellow Blog Buddies!
Lately, there’s been a plethora of Blog Buddies in our personal news feed—achievements, adventures, and, sadly, tragedies.
So, I thought we’d catch up…
An Exaltation of Blog Buddies!
RIP To My Dear Friend and Blog Buddy, JR
Unfortunately, we must start on a sad note.
Recently, we lost our good blog buddy, and my dear personal friend, Jeffrey “JR” Roehr.
I met JR through this blog—he was one of our very first readers!—and we fast became friends. He was always a super-intelligent gentleman, with a passionate love for aviation, world travel, cooking, and photography. He always had a cheerful attitude, despite a lifetime of health issues.
Sadly, those issues finally caught up with him, but not before he had found his dream home in Southwestern New Mexico, and enjoyed a little bit of retirement and travel as well.
My Favorite Memory of JR
I’ll share one of my many precious memories with JR.
Once, he visited us during the holiday season, and challenged me to a quiche-cooking contest. Well, I’m pretty darn proud of my quiche (Mom’s secret recipe!), so I agreed.
He beat me hands down!! But, a wonderful quiche dinner was shared by all!
During his next visit, he challenged me to a salmon cooking contest. Again, I’m pretty proud of my salmon as well (this secret recipe learned in my Alaska days!) This time, I was proud to say, he relinquished the “trophy” (nothing more than bragging rights) to me!
Again, a wonderful salmon dinner was had by all!

Congratulations, New Blog Buddy Skye!!!
I know JR wouldn’t want us to dwell too much on his passing, but move on to celebrate others.
So, next, I’d like you to meet and congratulate one of our newest and youngest Blog Buddies, Skye!
A senior in high school, Skye just soloed!
Woohoo! Congratulations, Skye!
You soloed at the exact age and time I did, wayyyyyyyy back in the Day!!
Skye wants to be a professional pilot—and, how could she not be, with a name like Skye?!
Best of luck to you, Cap’n-to-be Skye, and fair skies and tailwinds on your aviation career!

Congratulations, Otto—CFI of the Year!
A hearty Congratulations to Team Aux’s own John “Otto Pilot” Keith!
Otto has long been our official Team Aux photographer and videographer. He even documented our Oshkosh adventures several years ago.
What’s more, he met me right here through the blog. He contacted me to ask my advice about chasing his aviation dream when he was already well into his 30s.
Well, with Bunny’s and my encouragement, he did just that! Walking away from his lucrative medical career, Otto rolled the dice, took out a loan from the National Bank of Mom, got all his ratings, and now is a very successful and sought-after CFI (Certified Flight Instructor)!
And, oh yeah, did I mention he was just awarded Arizona’s CFI of the Year?!
This year’s keynote speaker in the banquet celebrating John was none other than one of our most cherished Blog Buddies: The World’s Only Licensed Pilot with No Arms, Jessica Cox!
