Jumpseating on the Breitling Round the World DC-3 Part 3!

Jumpseating on the Breitling Round the World DC-3 Part 3!

Folks, I hope that, like me, you haven’t quite had your fill yet of the amazing story of our Breitling ‘Round the World DC-3 flight. What’s more, I kinda left you hangin’ last week, when our jumpseat video ended on takeoff. Well, this week we present to you the rest of the adventure—all inflight!

And, what a great time we had!

Last week, the DC-3 known as Miss Cleveland visited Oshkosh, WI (KOSH) for the world-renowned EAA AirVenture. (Team Aux has covered the wondrous week of Oshkosh a couple years in a row for our blog, and for Airways Magazine, and, Yes, we are overdue and Jonesing for another spectacular week!)

Route and Schedule

As we speak, Miss Cleveland is taking a much-needed rest and maintenance break in KRFD (Chicago-Rockford.) From there, it will hit Toronto, Washington, DC, Boston and New York, before making its way across the Atlantic. Trekking through Europe and hitting some major spots such as Edinburgh, Manchester, Farnborough, Paris, Frankfurt, Vienna, and Milano, it will finish up in Geneva, Switzerland in mid-September. If all goes according to plan (and it has, to a “T,” for over 2/3rds of its journey), Miss Cleveland will become the oldest airplane to circle the globe!

Jumpseating on the Breitling Round the World DC-3 Part 3!  For now, however, let’s enjoy the amazing times we spent with Cap’n Raph and Cap’n Paul aboard Miss Cleveland, the historical DC-3 in question. Indeed, even before this history-making journey, she has held a distinct position in history.

The theme of this year’s Oshkosh was “Bombers,” and coincidentally or not, Miss Cleveland holds the unique distinction of being the only DC-3 dispatched on a bombing mission!

(You’ll have to read the tale in the September issue of Airways Magazine, on sale in bookstores now, as well as online at airwaysmag.com/store!)

We’ll do some touch n gos, fly over KPDX (Portland Int’l), and even do a low-pass flyby—along with a couple other surprises as well!

This video was edited from the LIVE Facebook broadcast I did, inflight, on People of the Sky (Facebook.com/flyinghumans). Nearly 10,000 people around the globe tuned in for each of our 3 broadcasts!

I have edited this version down for brevity, clarity and entertainment, but if you want to see the raw footage of all the broadcasts, you can still find them on People of the Sky (see links, below.)

So, without further adieu . . . .

VISS Sticker. Jumpseating on the Breitling Round the World DC-3 Part 3!Jumpseating on the Breitling Round the World DC-3 Part 3!  Charlie, I still remember our incredibly fun times together. Still remember the hilarious stories you told, and the shenanigans you pulled. You were a singularly fun and funny guy. And a damn good pilot. You will be sorely missed.
