Piloty Stuff!
Friends, I’ve been working hard behind the scenes to brings you more amazing aviation content!
Thought I’d touch base with you in regards to some great upcoming stuff.
First, however, I hope all you daddies out there had an excellent Father’s Day. I know I did! OK, so I spent the day flying my A321 across the country, but I can think of worse ways to spend your day!
(Minor Confession: OK, so I did take a little time off to fly with Cap’n David in his Cessna 310 over to SoCal this week for a little golfing R&R!)
FLYING + WRITING = BLOG BUDDIES!
While I did spend Father’s Day flying, it turned out to be a magical day. As fate would have it, a passenger on our KLAX-KCLT transcon was an enthusiastic Cap’n Aux Blog Buddy! It’s always such an unexpected delight when a passenger says, “Hi, Cap’n Aux!”
Nick J. stopped by the cockpit on the way out the door to chat, and to compliment me on my amazingly smooth landing. OK, so my trusty FO Dan R. had been at the controls. But hey, the Captain is responsible for everything, so of COURSE I took credit!
Nick had avidly read There I Wuz! Volume 1 last year, and was eagerly awaiting Volume 2 to release in print next month. So, for a little “light” reading on his next flight, I gave him a signed copy of The Last Bush Pilots!
If you haven’t caught it yet, There I Wuz! Volume 2 is now out on ebook! Preorders soon for the print version!
Also this week, I got to meet up with not one, but TWO Blog Buddies passing through PHX within an hour of each other! If you find yourself passing through PHX on a connection, please contact me. I’d love to meet you! And every meet up results in a free signed copy of one of my books! (Jay and David were doubly-blessed: they got advanced copies of There I Wuz! Volume 2!)
To me, this is the ESSENCE of what I love most: a passion for both flying and writing has combined to create amazing magic. This small community we call aviation has allowed us to make friends around the globe!
AND I CAN’T WAIT TO MEET YOU!
UP NEXT:
Part 2 of our video interview with Qantas airline A380 Captain Richard de Crespigny!
I’ve been hard at work editing for you another stellar interview with the amazing Captain de Crespigny! This is the video companion to the Airways Magazine’s Part 2 interview with the captain, hitting newsstands worldwide next week!
As you’ll recall, Captain de Crespigny and his crew suffered a “Black Swan Event” when their Number 2 engine exploded inflight, damaging all but 1 system! If you missed it, here’s the link to Part 1:

Part 2 is entitled:
Of CRM, a Rascally Attitude, and Coming in Hot and Heavy
As the name implies, we discuss how CRM (Crew Resource Management) played a critical role in the safe return of the ship—resulting in NO injuries—how the “Rascally Attitude” of the Australian culture played a role as well, and landing the world’s largest airliner, with crippled flight systems, 40 tons overweight. Don’t miss the Captain’s excellent blog at: qf32.com!
Yep, amazing stuff!
OSHKOSH 2015!
Next up after our Part 2 interview, I’m hoping to squeeze in a long-overdue Word on the Ramp video, before Team Aux flies off to Oshkosh, WI for this year’s EAA Airventure 2015! Coming the 3rd week in July, Team Aux will put you right there, at the world’s largest, weeklong aviation celebration!
During our pilgrimage, we hope to stop by Aviation Universe in ORD for a talk and book release party for the print version of There I Wuz! Volume 2. Details soon—DON’T MISS IT!
Here’s some pics from last year’s party:
This year, I’ll be once again representing Airways Magazine, and we’ll be looking for some great stories to tell, such as catching up with our good friend Jessica Cox, the world’s Only licensed pilot with no arms! She’ll be on hand to speak during the celebration of the Ercoup’s 75th anniversary, which is the plane that allows her to fly!
Also, Captain Richard de Crespigny will be there as well, so I am chomping at the bit to meeting him in person for the first time!
Finally, I’m beside myself with excitement to announce the pending release of my upcoming novel, Jihadi Hijacking!
Mission 3 of my Code Name: Dodger Young Adult Spy/Fly series, Jihadi Hijacking takes place aboard a hijacked A321 airliner!
The ebook is slated for publication this October, and will be available in print this November!
Here’s the back cover teaser:
Teen orphan Justin Reed has settled into the quiet suburban life as CIA Case Officer Bob Cheney’s newly-adopted son. He’s getting good grades, shining on the Panther’s freshman wrestling team, and loving his crazy new girlfriend, Joya. In his spare time, he plays Flight Sim 3000. Finally, he’s put the nightmare of the spy world behind him for good.
Or has he?
When their airliner is hijacked by armed terrorists—including Najla, a mysterious teen girl with striking green eyes—it’s up to Justin and Bob to take it back. But that is only half the problem: even if they can overcome the jihadists, who’s left to fly the plane? Worse, in their effort to save the day, the two uncover a plot that could trigger World War 3.
Once again, Justin must rely on his old orphan street smarts—and new CIA training—to take on armed terrorists and prevent apocalypse.
Every passenger’s nightmare—and every simulator pilot’s fantasy!
Over the course of this summer, I’ll be releasing excerpts from the story, so stay tuned!
If you’re not up to speed with the Code Name: Dodger Spy/Fly series, be sure to catch up! Here’s the links to the two previous missions:
