Had to jumpseat into KORD on one of our A321’s for my book talk and signing for “There I Wuz! Volume 2” at Aviation Universe.

The next day, we all piled into Aviation Universe in Bensenville, IL, for the book talk and signing, and pre-Oshkosh party!

PART 4: OSHKOSH . . . OR BUST?

As I mentioned earlier, not everything went off without a hitch. Apparently, some of Bensenville’s finest took the title of my last Word on the Ramp video, “Oshkosh or Bust,” a little too literally..
Okay, okay, just kidding! Officer Joel is a member of the ORD Airport Watch and thought they’d play a little prank on me!

ON A SERIOUS NOTE, as a pilot, I GREATLY APPRECIATE the service that Officer Vargas, the BPD, and ORD Airport Watch provide. While we all like to have fun, the Plane Spotters of ORD are the EYES AND EARS out there, ever-vigilant for nefarious activities around the airport, including terrorism and crime.
Since the inception of ORD Airport Watch , neighborhood crime has dropped 80%!
We can only hope that more airports around the country are inspired by their incredible example, and will take plane spotters seriously enough to incorporate them into their security regimen.
