Flight For Discovery

Flight For Discovery is the new novel by international airline pilot Karlene Petitt.

Most of you will know Karlene from our early Blogging in Formation days, and many of you are avid followers of her aviation blog, Flight To Success.

What’s more, she also contributed more than once to my 4-volume nonfiction There I Wuz! aviation series, with a harrowing tale or two of her own!

The Story

Many of you have been following the ongoing trials and tribulations of Captain Darby Bradshaw, the main heroine of Petitt’s Flight For series. This time, the fight for her aviation career heats up in the courtroom, in a drama as thrilling as her own aeronautical adventures.

Darby may have fought her way back into the 777 cockpit, but the greedy stuffed suits at Global Air are far from rolling over in defeat. As the legal saying goes, The Process IS the Punishment. And, the Global Airlines Empire does indeed strike back!

Here’s an excerpt of the plot synopsis from the author herself:

In Flight For Discovery, Darby finds herself in the second battle of her life: the pursuit of justice.

The debate is still open between which is more painful… fighting for her sanity, or fighting for justice.

As she uncovers corruption during discovery and learns of the shear ignorance of those she is fighting in management, Darby realizes that passenger safety is in more jeopardy than she could ever imagine. What the reader learns is how far airline management will go, how much power they wield, and that the pilot job is in grave danger of extinction.

Foreword

Karlene graciously offered me the opportunity to write the Foreword, and here’s an excerpt:

As a pilot with 40 years in the airline industry, one area of concern keeps myself and other “old school” pilots, such as author Karlene Petitt, up at night: pilot training.

Like me, author Petitt gained her wings in an era when the pilot-candidate was expected to virtually memorize the flight manual, and draw the electrical system blindfolded.

These days, not so much.

Get a pilot “just good enough,” then cut them loose. Red light goes on, push a button, get a banana. Or, at least, that’s what it feels like to us old timers.

Pilot-Author Karlene Petitt has dedicated her professional aviation life to calling attention to just this issue, and that is the main theme of Ms. Petitt’s Flight For series.

Read this for entertainment, but also as a cautionary tale. The truth is out there—and frightfully closer to nonfiction than one cares to realize.
