And now . . .
His name is Captain Richard De Crespigny.
He flies the world’s largest airliner, the Airbus A380, for Qantas Airlines. And on November 4, 2010, he and his crew suffered what is called a “Black Swan event”—an event so rare that it can’t be prepared for, with major consequences.
That event: the explosion of his Number 2 engine, damaging all but one onboard system.
WHAT’S EVEN MORE AMAZING IS THAT
In the end, all passengers and crew walked away safely, with not a single injury.
And now . . .

If you missed it, here’s Part One:
An amazing story, by an amazing pilot!
For more information on this amazing story, don’t miss Captain De Crespigny’s definitive book on the subject, QF32, available on his website at Q32.com!
Don’t miss Captain De Crespigny’s excellent, very active blog as well, where he discusses important current events and answers questions. Recently, he wrote an excellent piece about the Germanwings crash entitled, “Keep Calm!”, wherein he discusses fear, risk and reality. The piece is a healthy dose of reality about fear overruling our rational decisions.

In Part 3 of our video interview,
We’ll be discussing serious aviation issues for pilots, such as going beyond CRM (Crew Resource Management), Captain de Crespigny’s future plans and projects, and advice for upcoming pilots.
A fascinating discussion, and important advice for today’s pilot!
